I also found that it worked much better not to put the clothes away immediately as I went through, I got boxes(2 per family member) and divided clothes by family members. I pulled all clothes out of drawers and added them to boxes (shirts in one, pants in other) then only put away clothes that they looked for or asked for. The rest was then easy to pass down or give away.

If you put small kids outfits in ziplock bags, complete with underwear and socks it will make your mornings so much easier.
